poem

i can demonstrate the four humours quite easily
those being black bile, yellow bile, phelgm, and blood
which relate respectively to the four temperments
choleric, melancholic, phlegmatic, and sanguine
by whacking you in the nose
with a piece of brick
whereupon we see
black looks and bloody red anger
tears of sadness and rage
and snot (begging your pardon)

the rail

the rail is a quiet bird
it does not rail against others
is thin as a rail
may sit on a rail
practices honesty like all birds but crows and cuckoos
lives in broad marshes
not a broad-minded bird but doesn’t go off the rails
or touch the third rail for birds: cat fighting
