What is the carving of a snorkler doing in our back yard in Thorpe Hamlet?
Sadly, it is a memorial to a young fellow swept away from Whitlingham Country Park during the flooding of the River Yare back in the day.
Oh, youth! So innocent! So foolish! Diving for the odd penny in the midst of a veritable typhoon! Sic transit vita nostra.
