Most Significant Event

“What do you think is the most significant event in the history of the human race? Please explain.”

70,000 years ago, a supervolcano erupted, hundreds of times as explosive as any volcano since. Named Toba, it ushered in years of cold. Its effects reduced the human race to perhaps “40 breeding pairs.” We faced extinction in southeastern Africa.

Hard to think of an event more significant than that, unless we continue to wreck the environment.
