“You’ve got to quit.”

“I can’t quit. We need the money.”

“We need you more than we need the money. You keep getting beat up.”

“I’m paid to get beat up.”

“They couldn’t pay you enough for that. You’re a father .”

“What am I going to do if I don’t fight?”

“What are you going to do when you can’t fight?”

“I used to be able to think. I’ve caught so many to the head, I can’t think anymore. I can’t get another job.”

“Which is harder to get, another job or another family?”

  1. I hope he gives it up before it’s too late.

  2. Too many go too far… Now I have the movie “The Champ” in mind… sniff, sniff…

    • missed that one. cheers.

      • I saw the version with John Voigt and Ricky Schroeder – killer!

      • 70s movies are in a class of their own. just watched the stepford wives again.

      • They are indeed. I balled my eyes out with The Champ in the movie theatre – we’re talking out-loud sobbing, not something I usually do. I can guarantee, if a certain scene comes up, I start crying ahead of time… such a wuss… 😉

  3. The best argument!
I think we don’t change because we don’t want to change. Its too familiar and comfortable to set out of it!

  4. She has a fignt of her own on her hands with this one.

  5. Ugh. What an awful sport. The more of these stories I read, the more I dislike boxing.

  6. You’ve constructed this well. The unnamed woman gives the voice of reason with increasing force. Every time, her argument is rejected by something that sounds reasonable, but isn’t. I hope her final argument persuades him, or the whole family loses.

  7. Sharp question and a deep one. Sad how some people feel trapped into life when they might have found a better way.
